We discussed yoga, some unique death rituals, past and present, in different cultures around the world, and our being squeamish around dead bodies. We watched a trailer for Children of the Pyre and talked about caste systems that still linger.
We mentioned Phoolan Devi and Dr B.R. Ambedkar, 2 reformers in India who had interesting backgrounds-most notably-being born into low caste families.
We also talked about Ninajii temple in Kyoto and its Shinngon sect heritage. Since Kobo Daishi was the founder of this lineage, I asked the student to tell me about KD`s esoteric past. He mostly told me about the exoteric past but I was happy with that…
